Discover Toro II

These are suggested itineraries. Vinophoria can customize any tour to accommodate your interests.

This tour can also depart from Valladolid.

This tour offers a relaxing journey through the Toro wine region with a special emphasis on Romanesque architecture and the wonderful town of Zamora. You’ll visit two of Toro’s top wineries and also enjoy a gourmet dinner in one of Zamora’s finest restaurants.

Day One

Departure from Madrid at 9:00 a.m.

You’ll set off early from Madrid for the up-and-coming wine region of Toro. In the morning, you’ll visit a beautiful, ultra-modern winery in the heart of Toro which produces highly praised wines. This winery is also noted for it’s old vineyards; the average age of its vines is 40 years. First, you’ll tour the winery and its vineyards. The tour will take in each phase of the wine making process and a discussion of the region’s native grape, Tinta de Toro.
After the tour, you’ll enjoy a leisurely lunch in the winery. The meal will showcase Toro’s regional cuisine, and be accompanied by the bodega’s excellent wines.

Next, you’ll drive to Zamora, nicknamed the “Romanesque Museum,” which lies on the northern banks of the Duero river. You’ll check in to a luxurious hotel in the center of the old quarter, a perfect location from which to explore this genteel town. You’ll have the afternoon free to visit Zamora’s numerous Romanesque churches, and its marvelous cathedral which houses a wonderful early-XVI century carved choir stall, and a remarkable collection of XV century Flemish tapestries.

Dinner will be a gourmet event created by a masterful chef who is a star of Spain’s cocina de autor (original cuisine). This renowned restaurant , with its stone facade and sleek, modern interior, offers an exquisite dining experience.

Day Two

Breakfast.

Check-out and departure from the hotel at 10:00 a.m.

Your first stop will be the medieval town of Toro. Here you’ll visit Toro’s delightful Romanesque Colegiata (collegiate church). A small garden behind the church affords a splendid view of the fertile plain below, known as the Oasis of Castile, and a Romanesque bridge over the Duero. You can also visit a small winery in the center of town that is said to have supplied Christopher Columbus with wine for his journey to the New World.

From Toro, you’ll visit a family-run winery and meet its high-spirited proprietor who employs a truly unique approach to wine making. This will be an unforgettable experience! Here the wine tasting will be accompanied by delicious, artisanal cheeses from the region.

Lunch will be in a charming restaurant in a nearby village. You’ll enjoy a traditional, castilian meal accompanied by terrific Toro wines. Before returning to Madrid, you’ll take a short stroll in the quaint town of Tordesillas. It was here that the Catholic Kings of Spain and Juan II of Portugal divided up the New World through the Treaty of Tordesillas.

Arrival back in Madrid at around 8:00 p.m.
